Students who are interested in college need to begin to prepare themselves even before they enter high school.
The counseling department offers the following services in the college application process.

Selecting a college is a process which begins well before you decide to apply.
This process involves:

  1. Meeting with college recruiters when they visit your high school.
  2. Setting up campus visits at several colleges of interest to you. Your counselor can help you.
  3. Talking with people in the field you are interested in pursuing as a career.
  4. Looking into scholarship and financial aid opportunities at colleges that might interest you.
  5. Researching colleges on the Internet.
  6. Completing your pre-selection process and begin submitting applications to colleges early in the fall of your senior year.

The National Association for College Admission Counseling provides general information for parents and students about college planning.This site contains online articles to help you through the entire college planning and admission process.This site also links to an online college fair where you can chat with college admission representatives, faculty and students.This service is free, however you will need to register.

TheCollege Board website also provides general college planning information and tips and tools for college admissions.You can do a customized college search and be able to compare up to three colleges at a time.

The WiredScholar also allows you to customize a search and compare up to three colleges.It also allows you to link to online applications and provides a financial aid estimator.

The U.S. Department of Education National Center for Educational Statistics offers another resource for students to collect information about colleges and universities throughout the nation.
CollegeNet is a comprehensive website that allows you to customize your college search based on key words, interests or other criteria.You can register and have the colleges contact you.For a fee you can even create a personal profile to market yourself to college recruiters.Other features include online college applications and a scholarship search.

CollegeView allows you to create a customized search of individual colleges.This site also links you easily to college websites for information, virtual tours and online applications.

Petersons Guide has been one of the traditional resources for college information.This site also allows an interactive search and a fee-based student profile for marketing to colleges.

Some colleges offer virtual tours.Check their web sites or click campus tours for a quick virtual tour of a variety of colleges.
